The headline quote comes from Brandon Judd, president of the union that represents Border Patrol agents. These people, such as Judd, are on the ground every day watching the madness unfold while the Biden administration plays footsy around the edges without addressing the root cause of the problem. Just because the issue has vanished from the nightly news doesn’t mean it went away, it’s only gotten worse as thousands of people continue a northern migration intent on entering the U.S. illegally hoping to be released under the Biden administration’s lack of border enforcement or immigration law.
The U.S. Border Patrol has now become a humanitarian force, tasked with processing thousands of families and individuals, expelling some, and releasing others, all the while unable to fully protect the country from threats of cartels and drugs:
The record number of apprehensions is taking a toll on border communities — and on morale inside the Border Patrol.
“I’ve never seen it as bad as what it is right now,” said Brandon Judd, president of the union that represents Border Patrol agents. Agents spend hours handling paperwork for migrants who are allowed into the country to ask for asylum, Judd said in an interview. And that’s distracting them from trying to stop smugglers from bringing drugs and other contraband into the U.S.
“We just don’t have the manpower and resources to do what we need to do to both detect and apprehend everything that’s crossing the border,” he said.
Drugs, contraband, sex trafficking, it all takes a backseat simply due to the overwhelming number of migrants seeking asylum and hoping for the golden ticket, released freely into the country never to be seen again.
Biden’s failure is abundantly obvious in his poll numbers, with Americans wanting the President to take action and secure the border from rampant illegal immigration and all kinds of other threats:
When it comes to the southern border, more than half of Americans appear to want the White House to take further action.
Only eight percent of those who responded said they are not concerned about illegal immigration. In contrast 26 percent said they were ‘somewhat concerned’ and 47 percent are ‘very concerned.’
Asked about the president’s handling of the border crisis, 57 percent of people surveyed have said they disapprove while 35 percent of people expressed the opposite.
One of the primary jobs of the federal government is the security and protection of the American people. This means upholding laws and upholding sovereign borders. President Trump made an attempt and cut down illegal crossings simply by deterrence alone. If migrants believe they will be expelled, they’re less likely to make the journey. At the moment, with Biden basically rolling out the welcome mat, thousands upon thousands, tens of thousands, of migrants from Central America have decided to head north and roll the dice.
Meanwhile, First Lady Jill Biden is giving props to a private school called El Centro Academy, an organization with a history of providing materials to help illegals avoid ICE and make successful border crossings:
First lady Jill Biden touted a private school run by a Democratic donor whose organization has posted tips on how illegal immigrants can avoid arrest while in the U.S.
El Centro’s nonprofit arm has published a series of videos on how illegal immigrants can avoid arrests, with tips such as ignoring ICE agents during any interactions and contacting “a member of the community who does have status,” the outlet reported.
“In this video we detail the steps you can take if you have an ICE agent meeting. We want to make sure our families are informed of their rights and stay protected and safe,” reads a 2019 Facebook post from El Centro Inc., which was translated from Spanish to English.
Not a good look for a White House that appears indifferent and almost approving of the ongoing border meltdown.
In other parts of the Biden White House, appeals from states seeking emergency declarations have been denied by FEMA:
The Biden administration rejected Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s appeal that the federal government reimburse the state for millions of dollars spent responding to the border crisis.
In a letter sent Sunday, Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Deanne Criswell denied the Republican governor’s request that it reconsider its denial to approve the state’s request for an emergency declaration.
“After a thorough review of all the information contained in your initial request and appeal, we reaffirm our original findings that supplemental federal assistance under the Stafford Act is not warranted for this event. Therefore, I must inform you that your appeal for an emergency declaration is denied,” Criswell wrote, according to a copy of the letter shared with the Washington Examiner.
Borders are a federal issue, yet the brunt of the destruction is being absorbed by border states like Texas, Arizona, and California. Texas has been fighting back, doing what it can with limited jurisdiction and limited options of recourse. Texas has spent a lot of its own funds on offering backup to border patrol and had requested reimbursement from FEMA under a special emergency declaration.
As it stands today, very little has changed since 10,000 Haitian migrants were camped under a bridge near Del Rio, Texas. The only difference now is that the Biden administration is working harder to keep the problem out of sight and away from prying cameras. If images of a disaster don’t exist, then the entire thing can be discounted as a partisan issue.
Biden’s poll numbers, with crashing support from independents and softening support from Democrats, demonstrate that this is anything but a partisan issue. Americans want security and competence from their leaders, not willful dereliction of duty.
