These new numbers from CBS/YouGov are putting the data alongside the feelings most Americans now have for the Biden administration. There is too much going on that the President seems to be ignoring or downplaying in favor of priorities like passing the “voting rights” sham bill which is only a priority for progressive Democrats.
Instead, Americans would prefer Biden acknowledge and deal with his failures on the economy and Covid-19 response. The feeling right now is simply that the great uniter has become the great divider and the country is now paying the price for electing a man incapable of seeing the fires burning around him.
These poll findings are brutal, and serve as somewhat of a wake-up call from CBS/YouGov that 2022 is heading in a bad direction for Democrats:
The story of his first year evokes emotions too: although most like Mr. Biden personally, words like “frustrated” and “disappointed” top people’s descriptions of things, along with the feeling that he’s “distracted” and not focusing on what they care about.
“Focus” is a running theme in this story. Majorities say he isn’t paying enough attention to either the economy or inflation — together, their top issues — not just that he isn’t handling them well. Few think Mr. Biden and his fellow Democrats are focused on the right things overall, either. Even within his own party, it’s inflation where his fellow Democrats give him their lowest marks, compared to other issues.
It’s gone well beyond Republicans who have lost faith in Biden, if they ever had it, Democrats are now jumping ship and feeling a similar malaise.
Here are a few graphics to represent the gist of what’s happening:
No kidding! It’s not even clear if the White House acknowledges inflation is a real thing or if they just keep calling their own government reports “transitory” in response to questions.
A full two-thirds of Americans say Biden is focusing on things they care only somewhat about rather than dealing with the kitchen table issues:
Overall, Biden is underwater on handling the economy, 38% approve to 62% disapprove, and handling of inflation, 30% approve and 70% disapprove. If a politician can’t maintain at least near 50% approval on handling an issue, the issue has now become a liability.
Beyond the economy, the country’s Covid-19 response is falling apart:
A robust and “science-based” Codid-19 response was supposed to be Biden’s big winning issue, right? What happened to shutting down the virus and opening the country? Biden got sold a bill of goods that vaccines would halt transmission. They don’t, and that’s now abundantly clear.
The economy will continue to suffer as Covid cases keep workers home and test kits are scarce, again thanks directly to Biden’s failed promise of delivering more tests in a timely manner.
The CDC has been nothing but confusing throughout the pandemic. The advice is often contradicted within weeks, some of the guidance is simply near-impossible to follow, and the changes are blatantly motivated at times by politics, not science.
Biden has suffered from this yet the White House doesn’t realize or admit they need a better messenger so they stick with what has continued to be confusing and irritating for months now letting CDC Director Rochelle Walensky be the voice of the administration along with Anthony Fauci. The pair are disliked by a large portion of the country for good reason, why are they still the face of Biden’s failed Covid response?
In total, Americans no longer see Biden as competent, focused, or effective:
That graphic pretty much sums of how things started and where they’ve ended up now. The administration has lost credibility in terms of its ability to be effective and appear competent. As the kicker, Biden is also focused on all the wrong things digging his own hole with voters.
There’s a road ahead somewhere for Democrats, but it’s probably not winning any majorities in November.
