A new Gallup survey out chock full of data points shows the country getting more “gloomy” over the state of domestic affairs. With record inflation, record distrust of Biden’s ability to handle Covid, and a deepening fear that America is floundering in the midst of a new era of malaise, many Democrats are wondering if their party stands a chance at recovering much before 2024, let alone the upcoming midterms.
Gallup surveyed the country on many topics from the economy to social issues, and everything in between. What they found was an overall downward trend in America’s view that President Biden has any ability to lead the county forward out of this economic inflationary mess he’s created:
The latest results are from Gallup’s annual Mood of the Nation survey, which was conducted Jan. 3-16. This year, Gallup asked Americans to indicate how satisfied they are with eight aspects of the U.S., including the quality of life, opportunity and the governmental system.
Inflation is likely a major driver of decreased satisfaction with the state of the economy, which fell 10 points to 33% in 2022 after a 25-point drop in 2021, as the economy was affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
Record inflation, and the White House’s propensity to ignore it, is likely driving the economic numbers. Furthermore, while Biden claims American’s are seeing slightly higher income levels, he fails to admit that increased wages are being devoured by inflation at the gas pump, grocery store, just about everywhere else.
One other area that Gallup found worse numbers than the economy on is energy policy. Under former President Trump, America became energy-independent, shedding the need to rely on foreign sources of oil like the Middle East or Russia.
Instead, under Biden, our energy is going in the wrong direction, and the numbers demonstrate that:
Of all the issues and societal aspects measured in the survey, satisfaction with energy policies has fallen the most this year. Higher gas prices are likely the reason this sentiment has dropped 15 percentage points in the past year. Energy satisfaction had generally been stable between 2014 and 2021, before the steep decline this year. The 27% currently satisfied with energy policies is the lowest Gallup has measured in its trend.
Biden is hitting new records with his presidency, like the record low number of Americans currently satisfied with U.S. energy policy. These are not the trophies any president wants to put on the shelf.
The numbers from Gallup lineup with some other numbers recently out from Rasmussen Reports which asked poll respondents whether they thought the last three presidents would be remembered as the “best,” “worst,” or “average”:
Obama:
34% said one of the best ever.
33% said one of the worst ever.
30% said about average.
Trump:
41% said one of the best ever.
43% said one of the worst ever.
12% said about average.
Biden:
15% said one of the best ever.
54% said one of the worst ever.
25% said about average.
As you can see, Biden wracks up another victory in leading in the “worst president ever” category.
It’s a wonder whether at some point this year or next, Biden will offer his resignation, citing health reasons, and let his party regroup for 2024. With numbers like this, it seems like a suicide mission for Democrats to consider running Biden for reelection. He simply can’t do it, for reasons of health and a terrible record.
