Cook Report Moves 8 House Seats Toward Republicans

As noted previously, Republicans are predicted to at least take the House of Representatives and very possibly the Senate as well. The question will be by how much and what margin of victory the GOP will possibly see in November.

With all the indicators pointing toward a red wave gathering before Election Day, it comes as no surprise that several close House seats continue to move toward an increasing chance for Republican wins around the country, per Axios:

The Cook Political Report shifted eight House races toward Republicans in the nonpartisan prognosticator’s latest ratings published Wednesday.

Why it matters: The moves reflect an increasingly tough midterm cycle for Democrats — who are panicking over a potential electoral tsunami this November, Axios’ Alayna Treene reports.

“That means no Democrat in a single-digit Biden (or Trump-won) district is secure, and even some seats Biden carried by double-digit margins in 2020 could come into play this fall, giving the GOP surprising ‘reach opportunities,'” per the Cook Political Report.

President Biden’s approval rating hit its lowest levels last month.

There will likely be more moves in the coming months as well since the Biden administration has shown no ability to change course or display a modicum of humility over a solid year of failure.

Among the House seats trending red, several in blue states such as New York and New Jersey, and others in Nevada as well as Virginia, North Carolina, and Indiana:

  • IN-01: Likely D to Lean D
  • NV-03: Lead D to toss up
  • NV-04: Lean D to toss up
  • NJ-03: Solid D to Likely D
  • NY-04: Solid D to Likely D
  • NY-19: Likely D to Lean D
  • NC-01: Likely D to Lean D
  • VA-07: Lean D to toss up

Many of these seats were districts that Biden won, sometimes by double-digits, which tells you the level of ferocity lining up against Democrats in the fall.

In Virginia’s 7th congressional district, Democrat Abigail Spanberger barely won in 2020 and has been sounding the alarm among her party that unless progressive marxism is tossed in the trash heap, Republicans will make seismic inroads all over the map. Shocking no one, her party didn’t listen.

What this all means for the bottom line is that Democrats have a much wider map to defend. Democratic Representatives sitting in a Biden +10 district previously thought safe will now be forced to spend money and actually mount a campaign.

The days are numbered for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
