The country has reached a tipping point of frustration with the Biden administration that doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Independent voters have peeled away from Biden over the past year but now a new trend is sending shockwaves up and down the ballot less than five months out from the November midterms.
A new poll from Issues & Insights/TIPP found that voters overwhelmingly blame Biden’s policies directly for the runaway inflation the country is facing. There is no “blame Putin” argument that seems to be deflecting criticism, it’s all Biden’s fault and the American people know it.
The crux here, however, is that it’s not just Republicans and independent voters, Democrats as well are now blaming Biden for his policies leading to rampant inflation:
NEW: I&I/TIPP Poll
In general, how responsible are President Biden’s policies for causing the current inflation?
Responsible: 64%
Not Responsible: 25%Responsible/Not Responsible
Dem: 53/39
GOP: 88/8
Indie: 63/261,310 Adults / 06/08-06/10https://t.co/aQbtjDvgSx

That’s 53% of Democrats directly blaming Biden’s policies for the current inflation mess hitting the economy. Even among Biden’s voters, the “Putin price hike” garbage isn’t selling.
Here’s the full chart with the demographic breakdown from TIPP. Note every group except “Liberal” squarely places the blame on Biden:
No matter how you slice the results, voters have already decided Biden failed on the economy and failed to tamp down inflation before it became a serious problem.
Even among minorities and women, who typically vote friendlier toward Democrats, Biden isn’t safe:
Indeed, of all the major demographic groupings followed by the I&I/TIPP Poll, just one was below 50% overall: self-described “liberals.” All the other groups, including blacks (61%), Hispanics (61%), men (68%), women (61%), along with every income group, every age group, and every education group, all felt Biden’s policies caused the current inflation mess.
It’s hard to imagine a more sweeping repudiation of a president’s economic policies.
I&I/TIPP also asked a companion question about the impact of federal spending on inflation: “Generally speaking, does excessive government spending . . . ” “worsen inflation,” “lessen inflation,” or “not sure”?
Two-thirds (66%) answered that too much federal spending made inflation worse. Just 14% said it actually lessened inflation. A larger share, 20%, weren’t sure.
There’s no question excessive government spending worsens inflation, the only group that hasn’t figured that out is the Biden economic team. Despite multiple warnings from other Democrat-leaning economists most of last year, Biden’s team buried its head and moved forward acting like inflation was only an issue talked about on the Fox News primetime lineup.
With the November midterms bearing down fast, Biden has no means to shift gears or change course. With every group, age range, and ethnic background, skyrocketing prices on everything are causing widespread hurt across the board. It doesn’t matter what your gender or skin color is, most everyone has to fill a gas tank and buy food. No one is immune from the effects of rising prices caused by Biden’s policies.
There are more data points to digest from the polling data but you get the idea. None of the economic numbers are good for Democrats.
The biggest challenge for this administration is getting out of its own way. Rather than taking the issue seriously, Biden’s biking around Delaware for the weekend and holding events for pride month at the White House. The optics continue to look like a president out of touch with real problems across the country and his poll numbers reflect that.
