The special guest of the night will be Republican Senate candidate J.D. Vance, a trump-endorsed nominee locked in a tight battle with Democratic Congressman Rim Ryan for the open Ohio U.S. Senate seat vacated by the retiring Rob Portman, a Republican.
It was Trump’s endorsement that seemed to pluck Vance from third place polling in the Republican primary which set him on a course to win and head to the general election on November 8.
Republicans will need to win Ohio if they hope to have any chance of taking a majority in the Senate and polls have recently shown the race to be tipping in Vance’s favor:
Republican J.D. Vance is leading Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) by 3 points in Ohio’s Senate race, according to a new poll.
A survey by Emerson College Polling found that Vance, the author of “Hillbilly Elegy,” has 45 percent support among somewhat and very likely general election voters, while Ryan has 42 percent.
Four percent of respondents said they would opt for someone else if the Senate race were held that day, and 10 percent remain undecided.
The margin of error is plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.
The race tightens even further when just examining very motivated general election voters: Vance leads Ryan 45 percent to 44 percent among that group. Among somewhat motivated general election voters, Vance leads Ryan 46 percent to 26 percent.
Ohio has been a particularly good state for Donald Trump which should make it a good state for most any Republican, especially in a wave year such as this.
However, Vance’s opponent, Tim Ryan, paints himself as a “moderate” Democrat and has attempted to capitalize on issues that sound eerily similar to Trump’s policies. Some have remarked that Ryan at times seems to be running against his own party.
The rally for Vance, and other Trump-backed Ohio candidates, is set to take place on Saturday, September 17. Follow the Trump rally schedule for more details.
