Now Democrat Governors Are Sending Illegal Migrants to New York

In the clearest move yet the Biden border crisis is crossing partisan lines, even Democrats are sending migrants to liberal sanctuary bastions to try and deal with the crisis in their own backyards.

It was back in September of last year when Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sent a plane load of illegal migrants directly to Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. The result of dropping off 50 people was a “humanitarian crisis” in the liberal enclave where celebrities like Oprah Winfrey have summer homes. The media melted down over the “mistreatment” of migrants who willingly hopped a plane to go somewhere after they illegally crossed the border. DeSantis wasn’t alone in the practice as Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott was the first to start sending busloads of migrants to New York, Washington, DC, and other Democrat-run jurisdictions.

Back in December, several busloads of migrants arrived outside Vice President Kamala Harris’ residence on Christmas Eve. The White House blamed Gov. Abbott but it wasn’t clear exactly where the busses originated from.

Now, with the Biden administration showing almost no interest in the porous southern border, Jared Polis, the Democratic Governor of Colorado, is also sending illegal migrants to places like New York City in an effort to ease the burden in his own state:

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis plans to send migrants to major cities including New York, Mayor Eric Adams said Tuesday, warning that the nation’s largest city is already struggling to deal an influx of people sent from Texas and other Republican-led states.

Adams made his comments during a radio appearance Tuesday morning.

“We were notified yesterday that the governor of Colorado is now stating that they are going to be sending migrants to places like New York and Chicago,” Adams said during a radio appearance. “This is just unfair for local governments to have to take on this national obligation.”

An aide to Adams said the mayor’s administration was told about the influx Monday evening.

Like many major cities around the country, Denver has been struggling to provide services for a surge of people who have fled their home countries in Central and South America, crossed the southern border and sought asylum in the United States. Over the past month, more than 3,500 migrants have arrived in Denver, according to the city, and each night around 1,800 asylum seekers have sought shelter in the city.

NYC Mayor Eric Adams keeps complaining but no one in the federal government seems interested in listening. Adams is getting a taste of his own medicine since his party leadership seems intent on attracting migrants rather than securing the border.

Polis’ actions don’t seem to be as intentionally inflammatory as DeSantis or Abbott, but the same principle is at play. Colorado is being overrun with migrants and the state is having a hard time helping cities and counties deal with the problem. The result is that the most efficient and cost-effective means to ease the burden is to buy them tickets to travel somewhere else.

Perhaps for this reason, President Biden discovered that there is a border between the United States and Mexico and he intends to visit it soon according to reports:

President Joe Biden intends to visit the southern U.S. border, he said Wednesday, following months of insistence from his political opponents that he make the trip.

“That’s my intention,” Biden said, responding to a question from reporters about whether he’d go to the border. “We’re working out the details now.”

The president is scheduled to visit Mexico City next week for a summit with other North American leaders. The news of Biden’s border visit was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Let’s not pretend Biden visiting the border will result in some kind of drastic policy change, it assuredly won’t. It’ll be the usual glad-handing of Biden-friendly officials while the real issues like human trafficking and drugs get swept under the rug.

The irony in all of this is how Adams continues to insist that his city has “no more room” for migrants. Well, sorry, but neither does Texas or Arizona but no one seems to care.

It’s well past time local Democratic officials, like mayors and governors, start leaning on their friends in the Biden administration to deal with the border problem by increasing security and increasing deportations.
