Even though it’s being reported everywhere, most publications are still offering caveats that nothing is “set in stone,” so to speak.
However, it appears that President Joe Biden is finally ready to make good on his intention to run for a second term in the White House and an announcement may come as soon as next week:
President Joe Biden will formally announce his 2024 reelection campaign as soon as next week, three people briefed on the discussions said Thursday.
The people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations, said they were not aware that a final decision on timing had been made, but that Biden had been eyeing Tuesday, April 25, four years to the day since the Democrat entered the 2020 race. The upcoming announcement is expected to be in the form of a video released to supporters.
The specific date, April 25, is a milestone date for Biden since it refers back to his presidential campaign announcement in the spring of 2019.
As far as timing goes, Biden has been hitting a low patch in terms of his approval rating which has edged slightly down compared to last month’s sample according to Reuters/Ipsos:
U.S. President Joe Biden’s public approval fell to 39% this month, nearing the lowest level of his presidency, as the U.S. economy showed signs of losing steam, a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed.
The three-day poll, which ended on Sunday, showed a modest decline from last month, when 42% of respondents said they approved of Biden’s performance as president.
Biden’s popularity declined almost steadily after he took office in January 2021, bottoming out at 36% in mid-2022. It has remained near that level since then.
Sitting just three points above his all-time low of 36% approval doesn’t seem like a strong position to launch a re-election campaign, but that is the hand Biden dealt himself.
Biden’s approval numbers are low and have remained low because Americans of all political stripes are looking around and seeing parts of our economy and society deteriorate. America has been less secure on the world stage as a direct result of Biden’s energy policy which can be summed up as a green energy fantasy wrapped up in left-wing ideology.
Looking a little deeper at the polling data, it’s Biden’s handling (or mishandling) of the economy that continues to dog his support:
Respondents in the Reuters/Ipsos poll were most likely to cite the economy as the biggest problem facing the country, with one in five pointing to it. Crime and the environment were each picked by about one in 10 respondents as America’s top problem.
The crime problem also stems directly from the Biden administration as the Justice Department, led by Attorney General Merrick Garland, selectively prosecutes crimes based on a political agenda. Furthermore, a belief in defunding police and lessening punishment has taken hold in most Democrat-controlled cities leading to an ongoing and expanding crime problem. In short, progressive, left-wing policies kill and destroy, that’s what they do best.
Biden will continue his path of dividing the country along lines of race, gender, and any other way Democrats are able to clinch small bits of power here and there. More Americans feel that the country is headed in the wrong direction than in previous years, yet the Biden administration seems to show no inkling of changing course, which is by design.
Meanwhile, the residents of East Palestine, Ohio, have yet to receive a visit from a president who ran on a platform of being a backer of blue-collar America.
The battle will now start playing out on a daily basis on the 2024 campaign trail.
