Democrats Don’t Care About Your Kid’s Education: Part 978

As if the world needed further proof that the public education system was less about learning and more about indoctrinating, here’s more evidence.

The situation at the U.S. southern border has become so perilous that thousands of illegal aliens are being bussed to cities all around the country as a way to cope with President Biden’s massive policy failure. The administration could fix the problem, or at least mitigate it substantially, but it chooses not to.

In New York City, Democrat Mayor Eric Adams foolishly welcomed busloads of migrants last year but has since changed his tune. The city is full, he pleads with the Biden administration, only to be met with deaf ears and rampant disregard for the security and well-being of American citizens.

City shelters are overrun leading to new spaces being engulfed by the Biden border crisis with the latest victim being public school buildings. Actual tax-paying American citizens are having their children kicked out of school for virtual learning so that newly arriving illegal aliens can be housed in school gymnasiums.

As reported by the Daily Caller earlier this week:

An entire New York high school will temporarily go virtual to make room for roughly 2,000 migrants, it announced Tuesday.

More than 160,000 migrants came to New York City over the past year, and Democratic Mayor Eric Adams has repeatedly asked the federal government for assistance in dealing with them. Migrants are being relocated from Brooklyn’s Floyd Bennett Field to James Madison High School Jan. 10 due to potential flooding and windy conditions, according to the school.

“I am writing with an update regarding the activation of James Madison High School as a temporary overnight respite center due to the forecast of potential high winds and flooding conditions beginning this evening through tomorrow morning. To ensure a smooth transition for families temporarily sheltering overnight in the building, our school building will be closed on Wednesday, January 10 and school will be in session remotely for all students,” Jodie Cohen, principal of James Madison High School, wrote in a press release.

Kicking kids out of in-person classroom learning to virtual is akin to educational malpractice on the part of the school. Many kids suffer immediately from learning remotely on a computer and they’re stuck in sometimes unsafe environments alone during the day.

There’s nothing wrong with the school and no reason for it to be closed except that it’s become a new housing unit for illegal immigrant families arriving from countries all over the world. It wouldn’t be safe to keep students around the migrants since they’re completely unvetted and some may have a criminal history.

The New York Post elaborated on the reporting and spoke to some nearby residents who were, well, royally pissed off:

The school’s neighbors were not keen on the last-minute decision.

“This is f—ed up,” said a local resident who identified himself only as Rob. “It’s a litmus test. They are using a storm, a legitimate situation, where they are testing this out. I guarantee you they’ll be here for the entire summer.

“There’s 1,900 people getting thrown into my neighborhood, half a block from where I live and we don’t know who they are,” he said.

“They’re not vetted. A lot of them have criminal records and backgrounds and we don’t even know.”

This is all the result of Joe Biden’s intentionally porous southern border. At this point, it’s not incompetence and it’s not simply a bleeding-heart desire to help asylum-seekers fleeing persecution, it’s a willful dissolution of national sovereignty.

It’s worth noting this isn’t the first time NYC public schools have been commandeered as housing. Mayor Adams used 20 school gyms to house migrants back in March of 2023.

With the current poor state of education and collapsing test scores, students need to be catching up, not being placed once again on the back burner in favor of progressive policies that displace the needs of citizens.

Worse still is that the rate of border crossings continues to increase meaning practices like this of usurping public school buildings as housing will become more and more common. After all, kids stayed home during the pandemic, they don’t need a physical building and they can contact their teacher if they request it. Then the test scores arrived and the proponents of virtual learning were forced to admit what most parents and observers already knew. In-person learning is the best option and arguably the only option to catch up from the failure of Covid lockdown closures inflicted on students.

This is Biden’s America where illegal aliens are prioritized in front of American citizens. That isn’t to be cold or callous to those seeking a better life, but it’s a reality that a country trillions in debt with a teetering public education system can’t be bled into bankruptcy.
