Former President Donald Trump will once again grace the commonwealth of Pennsylvania with a massive rally. This time, on the opposite of the state, Trump appeared in Butler County, a mere 35 miles north of Pittsburgh.

As noted, this will be Trump’s last big campaign stop before the Republican National Convention begins next week. Speculation about his vice presidential choice continues to run rampant with only the former president knowing which way he’s leaning. The proximity of this rally, however, to neighboring Ohio, is raising some eyebrows:
The former president’s visit to Butler comes amid growing anticipation for the announcement of his vice presidential pick. Trump’s shortlist for VP reportedly includes Sen. Marco Rubio (R., Fla.), Sen. J.D. Vance (R., Ohio), and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum.
Butler County is about 47 miles east of the Ohio border, which has helped fuel speculation that Trump could be tapping Vance, the junior Ohio senator who frequently wades into culture war issues.
Trump’s visit is the final campaign event before the Republican National Convention commences in Milwaukee on July 15. Trump has suggested that he would want to announce his pick at the convention, but that could present some logistical challenges for the official nomination process.
Butler could be the perfect place to introduce Vance, the Hillbilly Elegy author, to the area’s white, working-class demographic.
The rally location is more likely a nod to the fact that Trump (and Biden) will both be spending a lot of time in Pennsylvania. It’s a must-win for Biden close to a must-win for Trump.
However, to further fuel the Vance possibility, reports surfaced this week indicating Donald Trump, Jr. would be the speaker to introduce the Vice Presidential nominee at the convention, according to USAToday:
The Republican running mate speculation hit fever pitch Thursday with news that Donald Trump, Jr. will address next week’s convention right before his father’s vice presidential nominee – and the younger Trump is a big supporter of Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance.
Two people familiar with the Republican National Convention schedule said Trump Jr. has been scheduled to speak on Wednesday for weeks, and that it is not necessarily a sign of favoritism toward Vance’s candidacy.
Whether it’s Vance, Marco Rubio, Doug Burgum, or someone else, we likely won’t know until sometime next week.
