Needless to say, as the Detroit News reports, security for the event will be heightened given the failings of the Secret Service to keep the former president safe last Saturday:
Former President Donald Trump will return Saturday to Grand Rapids, where security is expected to increase for his first rally after a gunman attempted to assassinate the New York businessman at an outdoor campaign event in Pennsylvania.
Trump is expected to take the stage Saturday evening at Van Andel Arena along with his newly-minted vice presidential nominee, Ohio Sen. JD Vance.
The U.S. Secret Service declined to provide details on what sorts of staffing or procedural changes would be made in the wake of last weekend’s shooting in Butler, Pa., but said the federal agency would work with local and state police “to ensure a safe and secure environment” for the former president, vice presidential nominee and attendees.
“We are constantly reevaluating security and where we see the need to change our posture we absolutely do,” said Doug Zloto, special agent in charge of the Detroit Field Office of the U.S. Secret Service.
