The Obvious Reason Kamala Harris Hasn’t Held a Press Conference

If anyone’s counting, it’s been over two weeks since Vice President Kamala Harris, having received zero primary votes, was anointed to the Democratic nomination after President Biden was unceremoniously removed by his party.

Since that time, it would be typical for a candidate to hold a formal press conference or two. Speaking to the press is a common way to open up and answer questions outside the bland talking points and canned campaign lines.

Kamala Harris, for all her press-appointed glory, has avoided all unscripted news conferences, interviews, and interactions with anyone other than her teleprompter, reports Fox News:

Vice President Kamala Harris has gone 16 days without holding a formal press conference since becoming the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee as of Tuesday.

Harris became essentially the de facto nominee after President Biden endorsed her on July 21 when he dropped out of the race and she officially clinched the nomination last week. She has been busy on the campaign trail, spoken at various events, and given informal remarks to reporters at various points, but hasn’t done a formal press conference or wide-ranging interview in the 16 days that have followed.

She also failed to appear at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago, where former President Trump made headlines on Wednesday with a heated question-and-answer session, although she could make a future appearance with the group. On Thursday, she briefly addressed reporters at Joint Base Andrews as she and Biden greeted Americans freed from Russia in a massive prisoner swap, including Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich.

The reasoning is obvious. Harris is terrible off the cuff and terrible when trying to address anything of substance. She went through years of staff turnover in the vice president’s office because she would never prepare herself with the briefings her staff presented her.

It was an ongoing problem when Harris would avoid prep work for an interview which would then go badly. As a result, she’d blame her staff despite their assistance that they provided her plenty of information, she simply chose to ignore it all.

Harris is too smart for everyone around her until she’s in the hot seat answering questions. Can you imagine her addressing the economy or talking about Ukraine? It’s comical to think about since her bread and butter issue is solely complaining about her love for abortion and bailing out violent felons.

We covered the Harris staff debacle on a few occasions here and here, and a slew of others. In short, it sounds pretty miserable to work for Kamala Harris, a person incapable of handling the media on her own despite their lavish love for her and desire to see her beat Donald Trump.

There’s no excuse for not holding a press conference and addressing the country she’s seeking to lead. It’s a replay of Biden’s basement strategy but this time employed for a different reason. Biden has his bumbling gaffes and they’re expected. Harris, still shiny and new for Democrats, cannot afford to sound like a moron on important matters so she’s simply decided to not speak outside of her campaign events reading off her teleprompter.

For all the talk and whining about Trump being afraid to debate, Kamala Harris can’t even bring herself to appear before a friendly gaggle of reporters waiting to ask her why she’s such an awesome person and what her favorite food is.

Here’s a new nickname: Hidin’ Harris who’s afraid to answer questions.
