President Donald Trump has never been in this strong of a position heading into Election Day in either of the previous cycles. Even in 2016, when he defeated Hillary Clinton, most polls showed him trailing by mid-single-digits in key swing states that he would ultimately go on to win.
In national polling, Trump never led the average in 2016 or 2020, for that matter. It’s hard to overcome the deep blue populated states for Republicans to overtake Democrats in the national popular vote.
As of this morning, following a week of solidly pro-Trump polling data, Kamala Harris has lost her national polling lead and the result is a five-alarm fire down at the Democratic National Committee headquarters:
Note the “This Day in History” line at the top where Hillary Clinton was up over 5 points on this date in 2016 and then went on to lose. Hillary still won the popular vote by just over 2 percent but lost the Electoral College, of course.
For a Democrat to be in a position tied with a Republican days before America finishes voting is perhaps the worst position they could possibly be in. Democrats need at last a four to five-point popular vote advantage to comfortably win the necessary swing states. Without that lead, Kamala Harris is already treading water and falling behind.
The Kamala collapse is real and getting worse by the hour. In the larger picture, the election has returned to the pre-Harris days when Joe Biden was seeing a similar collapse. The energy of dumping Biden for Harris seemed to jolt Democrats into action but the emptiness of the campaign couldn’t maintain it.
Kamala Harris has always been a terrible candidate from the beginning. She went down in flames against her primary opponents in 2019 without ever making it to the Iowa caucuses. Her polling support at the time cratered to a mere two percentage points of Democratic primary voters.
Perhaps Democrats should’ve considered this when doing the hot swap and pretending like Kamala was suddenly going to be the female version of Barack Obama.
It also can’t be overstated how badly Democrats have handled Kamala’s free fall while they pivot to the kitchen sink approach. On the one hand, President Obama is lamenting how divided the country has become while on the same day, Kamala Harris is comparing Donald Trump to Hitler.
No surprise, it’s backfiring and turning off moderates:
🔥 OMG. You have to hear this guy.
He’s an undecided voter in Pennsylvania.
After that “Hitler” story about Trump dropped – he said he’s being pushed away from Democrats because it’s just too hyperbolic and too much.
Now he’s leaning Trump.

Host: Vice President Harris, how will you improve the economic conditions for Americans and bring down costs?
Harris: Well, did you know Donald Trump is Hitler? Next question!
That type of endless deflection isn’t going to fly. Voters aren’t as stupid as Democrats think they are. The old “threat to democracy” rhetoric is dead and gone, voters aren’t even tuning in anymore.
In the same vein, Kamala will be delivering a speech on the national mall next week on the topic of… January 6. She really needs to fire her advisors.
Her platform has become nothing more than anti-Trump. No policies that voters support. No explanation for why she hides her radical views. Nothing more than hating Trump.
Democrats put themselves in this position by letting Joe Biden pretend to run for re-election and avoiding an actual primary. Harris still cannot answer questions or string words together with substance.
Donald Trump may well be on his way to the widest victory Republicans have witnessed in decades.
