Trump in North Carolina: “What They Did Here Was Horrible”

Ultimately on his way to view wildfire destruction in California, President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump stopped in western North Carolina today to view firsthand the devastation left by Hurricane Helene and the failures of the Biden administration.

These are the moments when Trump truly shines as he mingles with ordinary people going through extraordinary circumstances looking for assistance from the government they fund with their tax dollars.

Trump’s take on the issue is quite simple. FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is a bureaucratic nightmare that hurts more than it helps. It’s a lot of regulation and red tape from DC run by people who have never stepped foot in the regions where they’re trying to provide disaster relief.

The answer is more simple than it would appear. State and local governments, along with private groups, are much more likely to help residents with fewer impediments. Trump’s view of FEMA is that the federal government should reimburse states for disaster relief rather than act as the primary body directing it.
