Romney wins June fundraising battle by $35 million

June was a bellwether fundraising month for the Presidential campaign given the ObamaCare Supreme Court ruling among other things. President Obama’s fundraising, though impressive, fell short of Romney’s fundraising machine which hauled in over $100 million.

For the second month in a row, President Barack Obama’s vaunted fundraising operation fell to Mitt Romney’s, as the president was outraised by about $35 million in June.

In an email to supporters, the Obama campaign announced that they’ve been beat:

Well, I’ve got some good news and some bad news.

Good news first: June was our best fundraising month yet. We exceeded expectations — more than 706,000 people like you stepped up and pitched in for a grand total of $71 million raised for this campaign and the Democratic Party.

Bravo. That’s seriously impressive.

Bad news? We still got beat. Handily. Romney and the RNC pulled in a whopping $106 million.

Earlier today the Romney campaign announced its $106 million haul, split with the Romney Victory joint fundraising committee. The campaign announced that they received more than 500,000 donations — their best month of the year — and that they now have $160 million cash on hand.

In May, the Romney effort outraised Obama by nearly $17 million.

Undoubtedly this news will spur efforts for the President as his supporters open their checkbooks to keep Romney from gaining too much in the fundraising arena. Obviously Romney benefited from the Supreme Court decision which upheld President Obama’s health care legislation as constitutional under the tax code. This legal decision put the political battle over health care back into play with the White House being even more important for both sides to either repeal the law or keep it in place.
