Why Are Liberals So Nasty?

If you read our comment section, you’ll see a wide range of comments, both opinion and style. In some cases, there is real venom. Conservatives sometimes say liberals won’t listen. Liberals say the same thing, of course, but liberals are the ones who claim they are open and accepting. One reason they are not is that they are angry that they lose seats, even while attracting more votes. But that’s not an excuse for rudeness.

We’ve had several examples of liberal intolerance lately. First, there was the restaurant owner who refused to serve Trump press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

[Sanders tweeted] ”Last night I was told by the owner of Red Hen in Lexington, VA to leave because I work for @POTUS and I politely left. Her actions say far more about her than about me. I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so”

[The server clarified in a tweet] A Friday Facebook post from waiter Jaike Foley-Schultz said he served her “a total of 2 minutes” before the owner asked her to leave and she agreed. Foley-Schultz specified that Sanders’ “family left on their own accord, we didn’t actually refuse service or ‘kick her out.'”

The story first circulated on Twitter Friday night after Brennan Gilmore, the executive director of the progressive group Clean Virginia, tweeted a picture of a piece of paper that partially read “86 – Sarah Huckabee Sanders.” The tweet also said Sanders was “kicked out” because “the owner didn’t want to serve her and her party out of moral conviction.”…

Sanders’ father, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, weighed in on the news as well.

“Bigotry,” he wrote in response to his daughter’s tweet. “On the menu at Red Hen Restaurant in Lexington VA. Or you can ask for the ‘Hate Plate’. And appetizers are ‘small plates for small minds.'”

Partisans hit Twitter bigly, but also Yelp.

After the incident went viral, the restaurant saw a deluge of both one and five star reviews on its Yelp and Facebook pages, with none of them having anything to do with the quality of the food.

One reviewer who approved of booting Sanders, wrote: “The best. I’ve heard that they serve crow to those deserving of it.”

Another positive review brought up the Colorado baker who had refused to create a wedding cake for a gay couple as an example of a double standard.

“Think it’s a bit rich that a bunch of people who think bakers should be able to turn away gay couples are pissed that Sarah Sanders, the Leni Riefenstahl of the Trump Administration, was asked to leave. Five stars just to oppose hypocrisy.”

Meanwhile, others went to Facebook.

While the reviews on Yelp were mixed, on Facebook it skewed much heavier towards those who were angry that Sanders would be asked to leave, leaving comments like, “They hate Americans and use their restaurant for support of progressive crazy ideas. This is a hotbed of hatred here.”

Other reviewers called for a boycott of the restaurant. “Your restaurant is doomed for failure! When ‘WE THE PEOPLE’ stop frequenting your business, you’ll know you should have left Trump’s White House Secretary alone!!! She is awesome, and doing this will be your ruination!!!” One reviewer gave a suggestion that the “red” in the Red Hen’s name is an inaccurate description: “Please change the name to The Blue Hen.”

The Red Hen is not an ethnic restaurant, but one must wonder how Kirstjen Nielsen, Trump’s DHS Secretary, thought she could go to a genuine Mexican restaurant and not face trouble.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen’s plan for a quiet dinner at one of Washington’s upscale Mexican restaurants was foiled by a group of protesters who chanted and berated her until she left.

Nielsen, who has become the face of the Trump administration’s practice of separating children from parents who take them across the U.S. border illegally, was eating Tuesday evening at MXDC Cocina Mexicana when a group of 10 to 15 protesters entered the restaurant, The Washington Post reported.

The group, whose protest was streamed live on the Facebook page of the Metro D.C. Democratic Socialists of America, chanted “shame!” and “end family separation!” at the homeland security secretary as she sat quietly without acknowledging the group. . .

A handful of other diners in the restaurant clapped along with the protesters, who remained inside for 10 to 15 minutes until Nielsen paid her check and left, escorted by her Secret Service detail.

Nielsen has been pummeled because Trump’s press secretary refused to face questions about the family separation policy.

In addition to the management’s rejection of Sanders, and individuals protesting Nielsen, we heard that Seth Rogan intentionally embarrassed Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.

Seth Rogen told Stephen Colbert that earlier this month he shared an incredibly awkward moment with the Speaker of the House at Mitt Romney’s annual political summit in Park City, Utah.

Ryan and his sons, all fans of Rogen, approached him at the [political discussion] event to ask for a selfie but Rogen wasn’t having it.

“My whole body puckered, as it were. I tensed up. And I didn’t know what to do!” Rogen explained. After Ryan shook the actor’s hand and requested a picture, Rogen said, “No way, man!” before proceeding absolutely drag Ryan in front of his kids.

“…I couldn’t stop,” Rogen told Colbert. “I said, ‘Furthermore, I hate what you’re doing with the country at this moment, and I’m counting the days till you no longer have one iota of the power that you currently have.'”

Meanwhile, Business Insider reports on a boycott of Trump-supporting businesses.

More than two years into Trump’s presidency, the movement to boycott retailers that do business with the president’s family is going strong. Retailers such as Nordstrom and Gilt dropped Ivanka Trump’s fashion line as the movement to boycott gained momentum last year. However, 24 companies — including Macy’s, Amazon, and TJ Maxx— still sell Trump-branded products. The boycott-Trump movement has resurged.

Shannon Coulter, a brand and digital strategist, started the #GrabYourWallet hashtag in October 2016 to encourage people seeking a way to take concrete action against Donald Trump to boycott companies — large and small — that do business with his family. As a result, brands such as Nordstrom, Jet.com, and Gilt dropped Ivanka Trump’s fashion line last year.

Those are personal attacks and boycotts. Then there’s the issue of conservative speakers being rejected from college campuses.

Free speech came to fisticuffs before alt-right white nationalist Richard Spencer could even begin his speech at Auburn University. . .

Auburn had tried four days earlier to cancel Spencer’s speech Tuesday night. But a federal judge forced the public university to let him exercise his First Amendment rights. . .

The episode comes amid what critics say is a growing intolerance for the exchange of ideas at American colleges and universities. In recent months battles over free speech on campuses have descended into violence across the nation.

The University of California, Berkeley, erupted into near-riots in February during protests against professional provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos and again last week over President Donald Trump. When political scientist Charles Murray spoke last month at Middlebury College in Vermont, protesters got so rowdy that a professor accompanying him was injured.

The Democratic Party used to be all about peace and love. Even a few years ago, it claimed to be about hope and change. If they really believe their opinions are best, they should welcome an open exchange of ideas. As long as they are perceived as being rude and closed-minded, they will alienate the moderates and mild-mannered folks they’ll need to begin to challenge Republican governmental hegemony.
