Every presidential cycle, both parties put a lot of work into selecting a host city to make a statement about the direction of the campaign. It is with no coincidence, of course, that today we learn the city for the DNC 2020 gathering and the obvious significance of the choice. The Democratic National Committee announced that Milwaukee, Wisconsin, will host the convention in 2020.

More on the DNC 2020 decision from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
Milwaukee’s political moment has arrived.
The city will host the 2020 Democratic National Convention, edging out two large and deep-pocketed rivals over a months-long campaign waged behind the scenes through phone calls, contract negotiations and quiet lobbying by some of the most powerful political figures in the country.
The announcement will be made in Milwaukee at a 3 p.m. press conference, according to DNC spokesman Brandon Galloway
The announcement comes after weeks of decision making by Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez.
Relying on Midwestern grit to overcome glitzier rivals, Milwaukee snagged the event over Houston and Miami.
The convention is scheduled for July 13-16, 2020, with Fiserv Forum serving as the centerpiece of the event.
Democrats need Wisconsin, and they need the rust belt states in general, to successfully unseat Donald Trump in 2020. During the 2016 race, Hillary Clinton never stepped foot on Wisconsin soil as it was assumed that, like Michigan and Pennsylvania, those states were part of the “blue wall” of support which Democrats received almost automatically.
We know what happened as one-by-one, these states fell to Donald Trump and Hillary ultimately lost because she did not seriously believe Democrats could lose these strongholds.
Milwaukee makes the most sense, at this point, for Democrats, since they need to take back these upper-Midwest states. The Republican National Committee already selected Charlotte, North Carolina, to serve as the backdrop for President Trump’s nomination in 2020.
