As we head into the October Democratic debate, live tonight on CNN, with 12 candidates on the largest debate stage so far, there are many storylines playing out in the primary among various candidates. Former vice president Joe Biden and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren will share center stage, with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and South Bend, Ind. Mayor Pete Buttigieg flanking them to the left and right. The night promises to be full of fireworks at this critical point in the campaign as Biden continues to struggle mainitaing a grip on a race he has held together up to this point.

Debate moderators
The debate tonight will be moderated by CNN anchors Erin Burnett and Anderson Cooper as well as New York Times national editor Marc Lacey. This will be the first time this year the Times has shared as a co-host of a debate. CNN hosted the Democratic debate back in July so this is their second time at the helm.
