Bloomberg Editors: Biden’s “Inattention and Ineptitude” Is Fueling the Border Fiasco

Well, at least someone’s editorial board is paying attention rather than high-fiving themselves over Biden’s “best week ever” as the country enters a recession.

For months and months now, the US southern border has been little more than a suggestion from the Biden administration. The ongoing problem of human trafficking, fentanyl, and general danger and crime associated with the lack of proper border control has been something Joe Biden would rather sneer at than fix.

Just recently, following Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s decision to start bussing migrants to progressive cities, the mayors of New York and Washington, DC asked Biden for help dealing with the growing humanitarian crisis caused by lax border policies.

It’s with open eyes and a dose of reality that the editors of Bloomberg write and lay out the problem pulling no punches.

The border is broken, and Joe Biden broke it:

From Day One, President Joe Biden’s immigration policy has been largely incoherent. It’s now verging on a crisis.

During his four years in office, President Donald Trump attempted to reduce migrant flows using two programs. . . .

As for Biden? He’s been trying to shut down both programs since the start of his presidency, without specifying plausible alternatives. He has proposed a funding cut for border apprehensions and removals. He published an ill-conceived reform structure that seemed to act as an invitation for further migration without laying the necessary groundwork. Vice President Kamala Harris — deputized by Biden to head up a response to the crisis — has spent just three days in Latin America over 16 months.

Such inattention has allowed obvious problems at the border to fester, while giving unauthorized migrants the false hope that they’ll be allowed entry to the US.

Similar to the energy crisis America now finds itself in, all of this can be traced directly back to Biden’s failed or nonexistent policies. The border has been a point of debate and political malpractice for a couple of decades, perhaps even longer.

Many politicians used to talk about “border security first” before prioritizing some form of amnesty. All the talk of “comprehensive immigration reform” yielded no results in the 2000s and Obama years and only served to make the problem worse while incentivizing migrants to cross the border illegally with the hope of some kind of future amnesty.

During the Trump years, all of this was severely slowed and the trend started to reverse. If the incentive to come is removed, then fewer migrants decide to make the dangerous journey and the border can be controlled.

Once Biden took over in January of 2021, however, all the Trump policies went out the window leaving a porous border, overwhelmed federal agencies, and a daily toll of humanitarian death and destruction.

As for the joke of sending Vice President Kamala Harris to the border for about 30 seconds, Bloomberg spares no criticism:

Vice President Kamala Harris — deputized by Biden to head up a response to the crisis — has spent just three days in Latin America over 16 months.

Such inattention has allowed obvious problems at the border to fester, while giving unauthorized migrants the false hope that they’ll be allowed entry to the US.

The bottom line is that all asylum seekers have a right to have their claims heard in court, yet the US must ensure the system doesn’t get completely overwhelmed. . . .

The problems at the southern border are complex but not unsolvable. They should never have reached this point of near-crisis. What’s most needed now is leadership.

The last two sentences are really the bottom line of the problem in almost every problem facing the Biden White House. The border is a known quantity and known issue. There are ways to worsen or improve the situation. Biden has chosen every conceivable way to make the problem worse while trying to downplay and ignore it.

The number of drugs pouring into the country killing Americans every year from overdoses is staggering, yet that seems to be no concern for Biden.

The number of young girls and migrants used and trafficked by the cartels keeps increasing, yet that seems to be no concern for Biden.

The number of illegal immigrants pouring into municipalities that simply cannot handle the burden on public services is getting worse, yet that seems to be no concern for Biden.

How could it possibly be the case that the Biden administration decided to start ending policies like Remain in Mexico without considering the ramifications or coming up with a replacement policy?

It’s this type of intentional incompetence fueling speculation that the real desire of Democrats is to allow unfettered illegal migration to help bolster voter roles around the country. Why else would there be such an effort toward incompetence and lax enforcement of a sovereign border?

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing twice and expecting a different result. It’s not insane, however, if that’s the result you’re looking for. Maybe Biden’s doing exactly what his party wants him to do.
