Former President Donald Trump announced an upcoming rally in northeastern Pennsylvania in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area to take place over Labor Day weekend.
The event is being billed as a rally to support the “entire Trump ticket” in the state including Dr. Oz’s U.S. Senate campaign and the campaign of Doug Mastriano, candidate for Pennsylvania Governor.

The timing and location of the rally, however, will fuel rampant speculation that Trump could be planning to announce a 2024 Presidential campaign over the Labor Day holiday weekend.
The location, specifically in President Biden’s backyard of Scranton, also would serve as a great backdrop to contrast Trump’s America First policies with those of the failed Biden administration.
As reported days ago, Trump has been mulling when to launch a 2024 presidential campaign with an eye leaning toward sometime near or after Labor Day in September.
After the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago, the chorus for Trump to strike sooner rather than later became deafening among his inner circle urging him to speed up the timeline on a potential 2024 announcement:
Trump has received a fresh wave of encouragement to jump start his next presidential campaign in the 24 hours since his primary residence became the target of an FBI search warrant, several sources familiar with the matter told CNN.
The former President, who is widely expected to run again, had previously eyed Labor Day as his target launch date, but is now being advised to accelerate his timeline to capitalize on what Republicans have described as extraordinary overreach and political persecution by Justice Department officials, including by advisers who previously counseled him to take his time with a 2024 announcement.
Since the raid, Trump’s fundraising numbers have been off the charts with Republicans, even those cool to the MAGA movement, taking on a rally effect of sending support to the former President.
While it’s possible the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre rally may end up being just focused on Trump-backed candidates in the Pennsylvania races, speculation continues that Trump could hold another event, perhaps even on the Labor Day holiday, to announce a presidential run.
Trump has previously said that a 2024 presidential announcement, in his mind, is a matter of “when” rather than “if.”
An announcement over Labor Day would make some sense in that it would allow him to capitalize on campaign fundraising, as opposed to fundraising as a Super PAC, which is where his current requests are funneled.
On the other hand, getting in the mix before the 2022 midterm election in November may end up drawing attention away from Republican efforts to take the House and Senate. Others have speculated it may super-charge the congressional races possibly giving Trump voters a greater reason to turn out.
We will find out soon. Follow the Trump rally schedule page for further details.
