School districts in Washington, DC, will start the fall with a two-tier education system.
Teens aged 12 and up who have been vaccinated will be welcome to school in a few days.
For those who remain unvaccinated, which is roughly 40% of the school-aged population in DC, you’re completely out of luck.
For some reason, Mayor Muriel Bowser, a loud and proud Democrat, has decided that students in her city haven’t suffered enough damage both emotionally and educationally so she’s mandating all middle and high school-aged kids must be vaccinated against Covid-19 or they may not enter the school building.
The insanity never ends in some areas as the dictatorial Democratic Party continues to wreak havoc on the nation’s youth. Where’s the science to support such a move? Bowser hasn’t presented any.
The local chapter of the NAACP has gotten involved considering that the Mayor’s policy will disproportionately affect students of color, something that used to be a concern for social justice reasons but is fine in the name of Covid:
The president of NAACP’s D.C. branch is concerned that the city’s public school system mandating students 12 and older get vaccinated against the coronavirus is discriminatory against Blacks.
President Akosua Ali said Tuesday that Blacks will be unfairly punished because reduced vaccination rates will keep them from attending classes, WTTG-TV (Channel 5) reported. She said more remote learning options should be offered to unvaccinated students.
D.C. Public Schools has a policy in which students must have current immunizations on file with their school within the first 20 days of classes or they will not be allowed access to educational activities.
To make matters worse, the Mayor’s vax mandate is a one-way street. Either get the jab or there will be no school this year at all.
There is no alternative option being made available for students who decide not to get vaccinated:
During a press conference, Bowser, a Democrat, admitted there are no alternative options, including virtual learning, for students who cannot attend school due to the District’s vaccine mandate, meaning unvaccinated children will effectively be left without an education.
Over 40% of blacks ages 12-17 are not vaccinated, according to city data.
The Daily Signal asked Bowser what the plan was for unvaccinated students. Washington, D.C., public schools start Monday.
Bowser responded, “They can go to school on Monday. But they need to get their vaccinations … and their families will be alerted as to the dates.”
After damaging students for multiple years with either no learning or low-quality virtual learning, shouldn’t it be the top priority for every elected official to ensure full and complete access to a classroom education in the 2022-23 school year? You’d think so but not in DC where Covid mandates are still the top priority, children can keep suffering.
There is no science to support such a move as large school districts around the country have opened without mandating Covid vaccines on students. The danger is minimal and there is no scientific defense to mandating a Covid-19 vaccine on teenagers.
It’s just more tyranny from the party of lockdowns and mandates.
If black lives truly mattered in DC, Bowser would be working to tear down barriers to classroom education, not erecting them.
