Biden Bombed the CNN Debate and Now Democrats Want a Do-Over

Within the first few minutes of the CNN Presidential Debate on Thursday night, it was clear that President Joe Biden is not up to the task of the presidency and hasn’t been for quite some time.

The biggest revelation of the night was how deeply the media and Democratic surrogates have been covering, lying, and propping up their guy in the Oval Office. There was no sharp side of Biden at the debate lectern, only a man painfully unfit to run the country.

Perhaps the other most revealing part about Thursday night was the universal agreement afterward, from Republicans and Democrats alike, that Joe Biden bombed it and bombed it big.

The question of who won the debate wasn’t even discussed. Donald Trump walked away the victor and will see his poll numbers skyrocket after this debacle. If the election were held next week, this would look like a 40-state landslide we haven’t seen in decades.

The hits on Biden came in fast and they just kept coming. Here’s a sampling of reactions from top Democratic strategists and media figures.

For MSNBC’s Joy Reid, the word of the day is “panic”.

Over at CNN, the network hosting and sponsoring the debate, the talk devolved into a question of replacing Biden on the Democratic ticket before the convention:

Again, the word of the day is “panic” according to CNN:

What are Democrats left to do at this point? It’s not like Joe can be kicked off overnight since he controls his destiny. There is no mechanism to remove a candidate especially once that candidate has attained the necessary number of delegates to become the nominee. Joe Biden has crossed that threshold a while ago. The only way to replace him is to convince him to withdraw on his own and formally release his delegates, thus allowing them to select someone else at the convention.

There’s always the 25th Amendment for removing him from the presidency, but would Democrats go that far? We’re about to see.

However, there’s a curveball coming in the form of the Biden campaign’s desire for a “virtual nomination” to happen before the actual contention, according to Politico last month:

The Democratic National Committee announced on Tuesday that it will nominate President Joe Biden through a “virtual roll call” vote ahead of the August convention to ensure he appears on the Ohio ballot this November.

Ohio’s ballot deadline is Aug. 7, two weeks before the DNC planned to hold its official presidential nomination at an in-person convention in Chicago. Frank LaRose, the Republican secretary of state, warned last week that Biden would not be on the state’s ballot unless the state lawmakers moved the ballot access deadline to after the Democratic convention. Days later, the DNC announced it would expedite the nominating process, though no date has yet been announced for the virtual roll call.

The 2024 Democratic Convention is not scheduled to begin until August 19 but a virtual nomination of Joe Biden would need to take place sometime in July or very early August, before the Ohio deadline on August 7.

Democrats have one month to figure out the Biden replacement plan if anything is going to happen. As Megyn Kelly put it last night in her post-debate analysis, buckle up, America, because it might be the craziest 30 days in politics you’ve ever seen.

Meanwhile, the person no one is talking about this morning is Donald Trump. He was calm, cool, and collected from the beginning and stayed very much on course throughout the night. Most answers were solid and he pulled together facts and information on the fly without hesitation. It was a stark contrast to Biden’s overly-rehearsed monologues and trailings.
