With all the talk of Elizabeth Warren or Jim Webb giving Hillary Clinton a run in 2016, it’s easy to lose focus on just how lopsided the polling picture is on the Democratic side. The current snapshot shows Hillary leading the Democratic nomination with 68%, a full 57% higher than her closest opponent.
Report from The Hill:
Hillary Clinton holds a massive lead over Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) in a new poll released by CNN.
The CNN/ORC poll released Sunday finds that Clinton leads by 57 percentage points, 66 percent to 9 percent, over Warren. That lead is essentially unchanged from a CNN poll in November, when Clinton was up 65 percent to 10 percent.
Warren insists she is not running, despite an effort by liberal groups like MoveOn.org to convince her to run.
Vice President Biden, who is also uncertain to run, comes in next, at 8 percent. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who is looking to challenge Clinton from the left, gets 3 percent.New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley and former Sen. Jim Webb (Va.), all get 1 percent.
That’s a full two-thirds of Democrats giving support to Hillary Clinton. I’m not sure how her would-be primary opponents can chip away at that lead. For starters, she’s a known entity. Democrats who support her know what they’re getting and I highly doubt that Elizabeth Warren or Joe Biden will reveal anything that turns her supports off in a meaningful way.
