Rick Santorum Ends 2016 Presidential Campaign

Former Pennsylvania Senator, and perpetual Republican Presidential candidate, Rick Santorum has ended his 2016 campaign today with a lack of support and poor showing in the Iowa caucus. Santorum never really had any support from the beginning and several questioned why he even bothered to continue the campaign this far into Iowa.

Report from Yahoo News:

Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum is dropping out of the race for the White House, sources told CNN Wednesday.

After a dismal performance in the Iowa caucus — receiving only 1 percent of the vote, resulting in zero delegates — there had been speculation that Santorum might withdraw his candidacy for the Republican nod.

His campaign struggled to find its footing within the overcrowded GOP field — especially with media savvy real estate mogul Donald Trump and breakout contender Texas Sen. Ted Cruz vying for the top spot.

A Santorum aide told the Washington Post that he is scheduled to make “two major announcements” on Fox News Wednesday evening. He is expected to discuss the end of his campaign and which of his rivals earned his endorsement.

I’d be shocked if Santorum didn’t endorse Ted Cruz. The two of them are close on social issues, much closer than Santorum and Trump. Then again, it’s silly season in elections and anything could happen. Santorum did, after all, appear as part of Trump’s veterans charity rally, so they do have a connection.
